Article 20. The order of assignment, reduction, deprivation of military rank and restoration to military rank The Law on Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel
The assignment, including early, reduction, restoration, and deprivation of military ranks to military personnel and those liable for military service, including senior officers, is carried out in accordance with the Rules of Military Service.
A person deprived of a military rank, with the exception of senior officers, is restored to military rank only in cases of a court acquittal or a decision to terminate a criminal case on rehabilitative grounds. A person deprived of the military rank of a senior officer shall have his military rank restored by decision of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The terms of service in military ranks are set:
1) non-commissioned officers:
Junior sergeants – one year;
Sergeants are two years old;
Senior sergeants are three years old.;
Sergeants of the 3rd class are four years old;
Sergeants of the 2nd class are five years old;
Sergeants of the 1st class are six years old;
2) officers:
lieutenants – two years, and with a period of study in a military, special educational institution for five years – one year.;
Senior lieutenants are three years old.;
captains (captain-lieutenants) – four years old;
majors (captains of the third rank) – five years;
Lieutenant colonels (captains of the second rank) are seven years old.
Enlisted men, senior sergeants, colonels (captains of the first rank) and senior officers do not have terms of service in military ranks.
Employees of law enforcement and special state bodies, civil protection bodies who have entered military service in the Armed Forces, other troops and military formations in the order of transfer, military rank is awarded in the order of recertification, determined by the first head of the authorized body, not lower than the existing special rank.

This Law regulates public relations in the field of military service by citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan and defines the foundations of the state policy on social security for military personnel.
